Clinical Core

Core 3: Led by Dr. Thompson & Dr. Panagiotopoulos

The Clinical Core is led by clinical endocrinologists with experience in SC-b-cell therapy trials (Thompson) and establishing T1D clinical cohorts and biobanks (Panagiotopoulos). Over the first three years, the Clinical Core will bank samples while preparing for clinical trials in years 4 and 5. At Vancouver Hospital, the core will support cell therapy scale-up activities and bring in cell therapy regulatory affairs expertise needed to develop a Clinical Trial Application (CTA).

The core will leverage expertise in the BCCHR Clinical Research Support Unit, which is developing clinical trial applications for other cell therapy-based trials. The core will also create a new link between adult and pediatric endocrinologists, positioning us to propose studies in children and youth.

This core will leverage on-going biobanking efforts at BCCH, thus providing clinical samples when needed, including PBMCs for humanized mouse models (In Vivo Modelling Core), generation of CAR Tregs, and plasma for biomarker assessment of beta cell function.
